Plans change mid-month. Move money takes an amount out of one category and puts it into another, or back into the money you haven't funded yet, which the dialog calls Assignable.
Moving money only changes your budget in Forward. Nothing moves at your bank.
Opening it
On the Budget tab, either:
- tap a category's ⋯ and choose Move money, or
- tap the category to open it, then tap Move.
Pick From, To and an Amount. Under What moves, choose:
- Both (the usual choice): the plan and the cash move together, so Assigned and Funded both shift.
- Plan only: only Assigned moves. Here
moving plan between categories moves no cash
, so Available stays the same on both sides. - Cash only: only Funded moves, so Available shifts but your plan stays as it was.
Moving to or from Assignable is always Cash only, because Assignable holds cash, not a plan.
Before you confirm, the dialog previews each side after the move. If you move more than the source category has assigned, the plan part stops at what it has, and the dialog says so. With Both, the full amount still moves as cash.
An example
After Alex's 10/09 paycheck, the Riveras' Dining out has $350.00 assigned, $150.00 funded and $87.85 available. Groceries has $900.00 assigned, $400.00 funded and $261.76 available. They move $50.00 from Dining out to Groceries, Both:
| Category | Assigned | Funded | Available |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dining out | $300.00 | $100.00 | $37.85 |
| Groceries | $950.00 | $450.00 | $311.76 |
Left to assign and Left to fund don't change: the $50.00 only changed categories.
Had they moved $50.00 from Dining out to Assignable instead, Dining out's Funded and Available would each drop by $50.00, and Left to fund would rise from $1,991.43 to $2,041.43.
Funded more than assigned
If you lower a category's Assigned below its Funded, the row shows a Surplus badge with the difference. Forward never moves that cash for you. Use Move money with Cash only to send it to another category or to Assignable, or keep it where it is.
Undoing a move
After a move, the dialog confirms it ("Moved $50.00 from Dining out to Groceries.") and offers Undo, which reverses both sides together. If a later move has already taken the money back out, Undo is refused and says which category; undo the later move first, or make a new move.
