The top of the Budget tab shows two totals side by side. They are the month's version of Assigned and Funded: one counts your plan, the other your cash.
Left to assign
Left to assign is the month's income you have not yet given a plan. It is received income this month + remaining expected income-Plan occurrences not yet matched + opening balances that land this month − Assigned
.
Because it counts paychecks you expect but have not received, you can plan the whole month on day one. Zero-based budgeting means driving Left to assign to zero.
An opening balance counts only in the month it lands, never again after.
Left to fund
Left to fund is cash that has arrived but is not yet in any category: Left to fund (assignable pool − Funded)
. It goes down each time you confirm a paycheck's funding or fund a category yourself.
The Rivera household, October 2026
As of 10/09, Sam's 10/01 paycheck and Alex's 10/09 paycheck have arrived and both are confirmed. Two more are expected.
Left to assign: $1,800.00 + $2,400.00 received, plus $1,800.00 + $2,400.00 expected, is $8,400.00. They have assigned $3,520.49 across their categories, so Left to assign is $8,400.00 − $3,520.49 = $4,879.51.
Left to fund: they carried $312.40 into October and received $4,200.00, then funded $2,520.97 into categories. Left to fund is $312.40 + $4,200.00 − $2,520.97 = $1,991.43.
The two differ because Left to assign looks ahead to the 10/15 and 10/23 paychecks, while Left to fund counts only cash already in hand.
"Awaiting confirmation"
When a paycheck has been approved but its funding is not yet confirmed, Left to fund does not count it yet. A muted line under Left to fund reads, for example, "$2,400.00 awaiting confirmation". Tap it to open that paycheck.
What to do
If Left to assign is above zero, assign the rest: tap a category's Assigned cell on the Budget tab and type an amount. If it is below zero, you have planned more than you expect to earn; lower some Assigned amounts.
