A transaction from your bank or an import waits for you before it touches a category. Only approved transactions count in a category's Spent, so approving is the moment the money leaves the envelope. Approving changes nothing at your bank.
Say the Riveras' Netflix charge of $15.49 arrives. Before approval, Streaming shows Available $15.49. Approve it to Streaming and Streaming's Spent becomes $15.49 and its Available $0.00.
On Transactions
The chips filter by state: Needs review (Forward couldn't tell what it is), Pending (waiting for your approval), Approved, Pending bank (not posted yet, so it counts nowhere) and Removed. Active shows all but removed rows.
Tap Categorize or Approve on a row to open Categorize transaction. Pick the category, or tap + Add split to divide the amount between several; the splits must add up to the whole amount. Then tap Approve. Income needs no category: it reaches your budget when you fund the paycheck (see Confirming a paycheck).
To approve several at once, select the rows and tap Approve. Rows that still need a category, transfers and rows pending at the bank are left for you to do one at a time.
Suggestions
Forward learns from what you approve: payee-to-category memory from approved history; stable payees never invoke a model.
A suggestion from that memory reads Your usual. Otherwise the card says how sure Forward is, such as 92% sure; some of these suggestions come from an AI model. A suggestion it isn't sure enough of stays on Transactions under Needs review for you to categorize.
The Notifications tab
Suggestions wait under Needs a decision. On each card, Approve accepts it, Change… opens Categorize transaction to pick another category, and Dismiss clears the card without approving. To approve the confident ones together, tap Review 12 at 90%+ confidence (your count will differ), adjust the threshold with −5% and +5%, check the list it shows, and tap Approve 12.
Anything that moves money, such as confirming a paycheck or a bank's change to a transaction you approved, is never approved in a batch; you decide each one. Plain notices sit under Worth knowing. Dismiss clears one, and Dismiss 3 notices (again, your count) clears them all.
The number on the tab counts what needs a decision. Opening the tab doesn't clear it: the badge clears only as items settle, never on viewing
